    Hello Everyone,

I have photoshop cs5 and dreamweaver, how do I start designing an easy website?
I have a basic knowledge in HTML and CSS.

Can I make the whole design in Photoshop?
    What size?
    Then slice it?

My goal is to do something similar one day:

I wouldn't really recommend building a website via Photoshop, (assuming you mean converting PSD to HTML). It's possible and I've seen good results with this method, but it's a little fiddly.
Photoshop should in my opinion only be used to do graphics for the website, (logo, buttons, icons, etc..), and a mock up of what you want the site to look like. It's good practice to just jump straight into coding. You can style a whole website through just using HTML & CSS.

Just experiment, practice, experiment, practice... Think about what you want to do in stages, and find out how to do it. For example, lets say you come up with a really nice design for a navigation in Photoshop. Think about how you'd do the design with HTML & CSS, play around with it a bit, and just have fun.
If you have basic knowledge in HTML & CSS then that's a good start. Make some mock ups in Photoshop, post them here for critiques, and once you get the hang of it, have a go at turning it into a website.

You can also try CSS Hat which converts Photoshop layers into CSS.

Hello. I suggest you look up some webdesign tutorials and try to follow them first. If you have basic html and css skills as you said, I think the best would be to learn more about it and code it by yourself than (it's not as difficult as it seems).

I would also agree that designing a site in photoshop isn't the best way to go. If you are purely looking to display your portfolio you could simply create a blog and use Wordpress, it's extremely easy and some templates can make your site look great with zero work involved.

Start from the basics, (make transparent banners, logos, etc.) and add them into the site when necessary.

I use html and photoshop to make simple sites and they come out, alright I guess.
